I’m just getting into permaculture and your blog is great! There’s one thing that’s been nagging at me for a while though and I was hoping one someone could enlighten me. What is the “accepted” permaculture stance on non-food crops? I agree with permaculture in that we are wasting ridiculous amounts of space that could be used for better things than lawns and things...

Farm 'weeds' have crucial role in sustainable... →
afarmjournal: “We already know that some wildlife groups are declining on our farms such as pollinators and birds. Our research suggests that focussing on the sustainability of one group of animals may not bring benefits to others, however, we did find that restoring particular plants such as buttercups, thistles and clover could, theoretically at least, rapidly increase biodiversity across the...

satans-advocate asked: Just some clarity on your cob post: not all materials are available at any given site. some soils are not suitable for a solid cob mixture, and need to be brought into the site. and, not all materials are nearly free for everyone. they -are- potentially very cheap, and even sometimes free depending on who you know, where you get it from. just wanted to clear some things up.

Plant Roots and Soil Life: Mutual Dependence in...
astronautlovetriangl:     Root exudates create a booming economy in the root zone, the area right around the roots of plants and their mycorrhizal associates. Only a few millimeters to a few centimeters thick, the root zone contains the most life of any part of the soil: ten to fifty times the numbers of bacteria and many times the amount of fungi of soils outside the root zone. Between eleven...

Vegan Permaculture - An Introduction. →
Underpinning all permaculture systems are fundamental ethical values around caring for the earth and its peoples, as well as the fair and just distribution of resources - To me these fit well with the vegan philosophy of compassionate living. But is animal-free permaculture actually possible? Of course not – neither would it be desirable. For example, how would we fence out the earthworms that...

kadbudugorjeligradovi: Louise Cartwright visits three farms in England and discovers how they have used permaculture principles to diversify yields and manage their businesses Haye Farm education centre The rise in fuel prices has seen greater awareness and a wider concern for what life will be like when the oil runs out.
